| “From
Another Shore”: Recent Icelandic Art - Thursday, May 01, 2008
- Gramercy
Drawn from the collection of the National Gallery of Iceland, the
exhibition ranges from sculpture and installation to painting, photography,
and video. It includes approximately 40 works by 20 internationally
acclaimed artists. Due to particular geographical conditions, Icelandic
artists are to a large extent influenced by the overwhelming nature
of the country, which is Europe’s largest unspoiled territory.
They are also marked by the particular isolation of the island, halfway
between Europe and North-America, which despite its area as Europe’s
second largest island has a population of a mere 300,000 spread along
the rugged coast, turning its back on the uninhabited, volcanic, and
glacial highland. Join our group as we check out this culturally amazing
exhibit which is also FREE!

6-Course Supper @ Knife + Fork - Thursday, May 15, 2008 - East Village
Knife + Fork is an apt name for a meal whose cutlery is replaced for
each of six courses. A three pronged fork arrives for a seared cod
in delectable black bean sauce; a four pronged fork suits scallops
and pork belly. Knife + Fork opened in 2006, and is the first solo
venture of chef Damien Brassel, whose previous appointments at Michelin-rated
Peacock Alley in Dublin and alongside Bobby Flay at Bolo won him critical
aclaim. With neighborhood comfort, and high class appeal, the Brassels
(Damien, and his wife Kristi who runs the front of the house) offer
a decidedly tasty menu and refined attention to detail visible in
everything from the plating of entrees to the choice of beautiful
stemware. We will be partaking in the nightly 6-course chefs tasting
menu for $45 (not including wine). Arguably one of the best prix fixe
bargains in the city, Chef Brassel offers a personal selection of
six items off the starters and entrees menus, mixing and matching
the freshest ingredients to orchestrate a truly decadent feast. We
are so excited for this dinner and we hope you are too! Bon Appetit!
