| Love/War/Sex
Art Exhibit at EXIT ART - Saturday, December 01, 2007 - FREE - Chelsea
Love/War/Sex considers memory, history, ornaments, weapons and personal
stories. This exhibition connects longing with violence and love with
war, imagining the business of war in all its sexual manifestations.
Love/War/Sex considers the conflation of those basic human instincts—a
toxic combination manifested in images and stories coming out of Iraq.
The works relate disparate issues such as weapon infatuation, war
nostalgia, and the sexualization of violence to form an overall image
of war as a perversely necessary part of our culture. The exhibition
incorporates video, sculpture, wallpaper, and a selection of weapons
and military vehicles – the very tools that perpetuate societal
shifts and make war possible —on loan from the Military Museum
of Southern New England. The walls of the gallery will be papered
with personal stories, imagining war conjured from texts. Join us
as we view this amazing exhibit and reflect on our own struggles dealing
with Love/War/Sex in these harsh times. This is a free event so why
not check it out and get in some culture?

Healthy Soups and Stews Workshop - Monday, December 10, 2007
- $50.00 - Chelsea
During the winter months our bodies crave warming and grounding foods.
Soups and stews are the perfect answer to this. These one-stop dishes
can often offer a solution to a time crunch as well: you can make
a pot and eat many meals from it over the week. Well meet at Jena
Wellness Center and meet with their staff for personal attention and
amazing hands-on experience creating the items below! Featured menu
items are: potato, chicken and sauerkraut stew. It sounds like a strange
combination, but this is a divine marriage of flavors. This meal-in-one-pot
is a simple and terrific way to feed the whole gang, or just one.
The next dish on the list is Moroccan lentil soup with saffron. It
is a twist on a traditional vegetarian lentil soup, this one is just
a little bit spicier, adding heat and warming the belly twice over.
The saffron deepens the flavor and makes it more delicious than that
regular lentil soup you consume! If you like a creamier soup than
this one is for you! We’ll create a creamy broccoli soup, which
is a classic! This soup is deeply satisfying and so simple to make.
You can decide what degree of creaminess you desire, using anything
from skim milk to cream. We’ll whip up a delicious and simple
side salad, dressed with mustard vinaigrette, and enjoy the whole
meal with some crusty bread. $50 has been pre-paid and covers the
cost of your participation in this activity. Please bring enough CASH
to pay for any purchases you make, including food and drinks with
the gang afterwards.
